Catherine (Katie) Posey, Ph.D.
Lecturer & Researcher in Children’s Literature, Curriculum Developer, Book Reviewer, Writer
So here’s my story…
I’ve been exploring the fantastic world of children’s literature since I learned to read. After studying English and French at university, I moved to London to complete an M.A. in Children’s Literature and began researching the area of children’s literature and spirituality. Afterwards, I returned to the states to teach writing, literature, and children’s literature at the college level before working towards a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in children’s literature at The Pennsylvania State University.
I taught middle school language arts at a creative private school for two years after getting my Ph.D., and I’m currently teaching online for several colleges in the area of children’s literature and writing.
You can find me reading children’s and young adult literature, teaching, researching readers’ responses to literature and children’s spirituality, baking cakes, dancing, traveling, and going on adventures.
I also love being a member of the executive committee for the International Association for Children’s Spirituality!
And guess what?! In 2011, I got to be the chair for the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award for best book of children’s poetry published in 2010!!
I’ve published some articles about children’s literature, and want to publish more…Some were in the Journal of Children’s Literature and the International Journal of Children’s Spirituality. Some of my book chapters are in Knowing Their Place: Identity and Space in Children’s Literature, Crossing Textual Boundaries in International Children’s Literature, and Understanding Children’s Spirituality: Theology, Research, and Practice.
